Over a few decades, there has been a rising global demand for preparing talented, qualified and professionally skilled manpower/human resources to cater to the country’s needs and those of outside world for Social Work, Welfare and Development Agencies, including Government and Non-government Agencies, International Agencies and Research Organizations. It is worth mentioning that a considerable number of Social Work graduates are working in Australia, Canada, UK, and the USA and also in other countries after having obtained their Master’s Degree from the Institute of Social Welfare and Research (ISWR), University of Dhaka. At present, the ISWR is having pressure from the admission seekers both fresher’s and those on the job who wish to enrich the knowledge and expertise in the fields of Social Welfare/Social Work, a practice-oriented and professional discipline and advance their academic and professional career in order that they can contribute more effectively towards their own fields of operation. In 2004 a two-year Evening Master’s Program was introduced at the Institute of Social Welfare and Research and in 2013 a Specialized Master’s Program was also offered and continued till today. As per the rules and recommendations of the Academic Council of the University of Dhaka in 2022 with regard to offering Master’s Program (irregular), the Academic Committee and Committee of Courses and Studies of ISWR has accepted a proposal for offering a Master’s Degree Program in Social Welfare as a Professional Degree at the ISWR that is approved by the Academic Council of the University of Dhaka.
